Tetra Pak^® polynode technology for separator disc stacks

Tetra Pak^® polynode technology is not a separator of its own but a new design for the discs inside a separator. For more than 130 years, separator disc stacks had hardly changed; polynode technology replaces the traditional welded discs with one-piece discs that carry smaller, lower nodes.

Because the nodes are smaller and lower, more discs fit into the same disc stack. That increases the separation surface, and dairies can use it in two ways: run more product through the separator at unchanged separation performance, or keep the capacity and separate more efficiently, for example to remove more fat and meet a tight product specification. In both cases water and energy consumption per litre of product go down, which reduces the environmental footprint.

• Applications: Disc stacks of Tetra Pak^® separators in dairy processing, including machines that currently run traditional welded discs.

• Capacity: More discs per stack and a larger separation surface; at Arla Foods in Vimmerby, Sweden, two Tetra Pak^® separators process up to 40% more milk with the new disc stack design.

• Design: One-piece polynode discs with smaller, lower nodes, replacing traditional welded discs.

Upgrade instead of replace: Polynode discs can be fitted to separators that currently use traditional welded discs, so an existing line can gain capacity or efficiency without a new machine.
